I think the two biggest gaps in science are a) reconciling quantum physics and gravity (unsolved after 100 years), and b) explaining consciousness as a function of brain activity (unsolved since at least Descartes). I have been following the recent work of Stephen Wolfram (https://www.wolframphysics.org/) He seems to be closing in on a) using a computational model rather than complex mathematical formulas. He shows how great complexity can arise from relatively simple rules. I suspect something similar could be the solution to b). God showed how the vast complexity of ethical/moral behavior rests on 10 simple rules. I won’t be surprised to learn that the complexity of the mind flows from a few basic neural rules.
